Goal Progress - April Results, May Goals

Hello! Happy End of April to you!

Alright, April results!
This is a very picture heavy post...

Thrift/Refurbishing:
Refinishing my kitchen chairs.
Before:

table done (bad light) need to do chairs

My kitchen table was refinished in March.
You can see the before and process posts HERE.

After:

It's so much brighter in here!

During the summer months I want to make cushions for each chair
out of Wing Study Pastille from Paula Prass' Botanika line.

So gorgeous! I plan to treat it with an environmentally friendly stain repellant too.
Edited to add: Yay, just found out it's available in an oilcloth!
No need to treat or worry about messes!

I attempted to mock up what a cushion might look like.
Hmmmm....I'm a little rusty with Photoshop!

Haha! Hopefully you get the idea.
Using a light, fun fabric with black accents (to echo the side of the table)
will add the extra special touch I'm looking for.
Plus, all the colors my family requested are represented. Score!

Because May is a short month for me
(I'm going on vacation with my Mom and daughter),
my May refurbishing goal is going to be something small.
As of now, I'm going to paint my bedroom side tables if the weather allows.

Sewing:
Making a memory blanket for friends who have three young boys,
using their baby clothes and shoes!

Jake, Lavina and the boys live in Alaska.
Almost all of the clothing was winter wear so this was a great challenge for me.
I lined the inside of the blanket with a warm fleece.
Because there's not a lot of fabric to baby clothes, this is a lap-sized blanket, 35" x 40".

Ahhhhh, I hope the family loves what I've done with their precious memories!
I'm already imagining Lavina snuggling up on the sofa,
pulling this over her legs and remembering when her boys were really small....
I hope that happens.

Again, because I have limited time in May my sewing project is going to be small.
I plan to make a weighted sensory snake for my son.
It's a therapeutic tool for him to use when he needs comfort,
something to help him maintain focus and feel secure.
He may also want to use the snake when he feels the need for physical pressure.
Many children with autism benefit from tools like this.
Sam uses the snakes that are provided to him at school
and his wonderful teacher thought it would be great if I made one for him to use at home.

Sam and I dug through my fabric stash and he chose two fabrics...

Fabrics my son picked out for a project

Super soft dragons and fluffy pandas.
Great choices! I never imagined them together but hey, he likes 'em.

Wahoo! See ya later April showers...I'm looking forward to May flowers.
Well, actually, I wouldn't mind some more rain.

Oh I just love the kitchen table and chairs!

Love the beautiful blanket as well. My mom made a blanket for each of my kids with their baby blankets. She has asked me to save some of their clothes to make another blanket with them.

Thank you Kelli :)

So great that your Mom made the kids their own blankets! I'd love to see them.

Your table and chairs are beautiful! I do love that fabric you have picked for the seat covers. It reminds me of botanical books from the early 1900's.

The blanket you made is gorgeous, Angel. They are going to just love it. I can already see the moisture in the eyes.
