Goal Progress - May

Hi there!

May Thrift/Refurbishing and Sewing are super easy projects.
I'm taking a vacation with my Mom and daughter
and won't have a full month to complete them.
I've made them small goals.

Thrift/Refurbishing:
Painting my bedroom "side tables".

Okay, I'm going to show you something ridiculous and silly.
Tyler and I have never used traditional side tables.
I guess it hasn't been a priority to have good storage
and a decent place to set a glass of water.
D'oh.

I've been using this lovely creature...

table covered

Yup, eh...I think it's supposed to be used for bathroom storage?
I don't know.
It's wicker, has two shelves and handles.

Maybe I should have moved my guitar.

I cover it with a faux fur that's precious to me because a dear man,
my daughter's great-grandfather (who's now passed)
gave it to me for Christmas a long time ago.

Want to see the inside?

table open

Errr...I'm not sure what to say.
This is embarrassing.

Well, maybe that's not too bad.
But this - Tyler's "side table".

I hang my head.

:( need a new side table

It was my daughter's side table when she was a little girl.
With a little bed.
I'm pretty sure it's made of PVC piping.
{cringe}

The plan is to paint them one of my favorite colors
and use them somewhere else in the house.
They've (sort of) served their purpose.
The plan is also to find decent side tables to refurbish somewhere down the road!
Here's the color:

peacock blue

Sewing:
Making a weighted sensory snake for my son.

A few people have asked me what this is and what it's for.
HERE is a good example.
Some children with autism benefit from the pressure and comfort of using the snake
either draped over their shoulders or placed on their lap.
My son loves the feeling of deep pressure.
It's nice because we share extra squeezy hugs.

Fabrics my son picked out for a project
Fabric picked out by my son. Soft and fuzzy.

I plan to fill it with this:

rice
A really old bag of rice I got from a friend when I helped him move.
I thought I would use it to make doorstops but this works out better.

So there it is.
Out there for everyone to see.
May is all about weighted snakes, old rice and mismatched, discombobulated furniture.

Are you using anything cringe-worthy in your home that should be used elsewhere?
If it works, it works!
After all, it's just stuff.

Uh-oh, I'm going to regret typing that line.
I've been dying to get a new sectional for years.
Tyler's totally going to laugh at me now! (In a teasing sort of way, he's a good guy.)

So what will you replace your side tables with?

I had figured the snake would be longer.

Jake- no prob. It's on the way!

Mom- I'll be on the lookout for suitable tables. Prob thrift or estate sale so I can refurbish myself.

Oh, yeah, some of the snakes are long...some are short. Ha!
That's just one example.
