IF: Secret

Illustration Friday
Secret is the word.

A few years back, when my son was a wee babe,
I started designing seamless patterns.
I had a bunch (100's of them) saved on my laptop.

I kept them secret.
I showed no one.
Well, I showed my Honey a few.
And I emailed my Mom two separate patterns.
But that's it.

My thought was that ONE DAY,
I'll attempt the work-from-home surface design world.

Then life became overwhelming and scary.
We went through a couple years of not knowing.
Not understanding what was happening.
Not sleeping.
Not creating.
Until finally, our son was diagnosed with autism.

Guess what happened next?
Haha, in true Murphy's Law form, my computer crashed.
Not just crashed, it sizzled!
Tiny wisps of smoke and everything.
And yup, you guessed, it wasn't backed up.

Insert the sound of SILENCE here...

IF: Secrets
Part of a SECRET pattern I emailed my Mom.
Not the seamless version, I'm holding onto it until it's completely finished.

Do you remember those ol' melamine and/or painted metal pins and brooches?
I still love them.

Sam will be starting kindergarten this year and Ella will be a freshman in high school.
I'll have hours to design patterns on my new-to-me computer (and get to the gym).
Oh, and you bet I'll be saving them everywhere!

*Sidenote- we're all great now, sleeping well and enjoying our family life!
It was just really tough before we knew where we were headed.

Have a wonderful week!

Wow, what a story! A critical moment when you could have chosen to quit or move forward. Well, clearly from your blog you're a "move forward" type, which is pretty great. (But I'm glad you can laugh about it now!) Also, cute honey! Mine's a guitarist, too. :D

Cool Cindy! Love those musicians ;)
I figure the best way to start over (patterns) was to let the secret out...
