The Color Run - In the Rain!

rain drops

Up at 5am on a Saturday.
We were parked in Tempe just before the roads closed.
We were freezing (yeah, it was 53 degrees- but that's COLD for us)
and walking around in the rain.
Ella was hesitant.
Wondering if we should go home.
She was cold, wet and tired.
My Mom would probably call her a "drowned rat".  Right, Mom?
I was tired and cold too but REALLY wanted to run- so she let me have my way.
Starbucks was the only place open.
We huddled together with a large group of Color Runners
and warmed up with dirty chai lattes.

I have sunglasses under my hoodie.
Ummm...didn't need those.

Renewed and extremely caffeinated, we made our way to the starting line.
The energy was high.  Everyone was soaked, pumped, dancing and happy.

Ella and I jogged most of the race.
There was too much to see - people in wedding dresses, tutus,
clown wigs, droopy mohawks,  booty shorts...and of course,
we had to slow down for the color stations!

For those that don't know what The Color Run is-
It's a 5K (about 3.2 miles) that raises money for local and national charities.
You're supposed to wear white and are encouraged to wear a costume.
Our Tempe race raised money for the Special Olympics.
During the course you get doused with colored corn starch.
At the finish line, you're a hilarious rainbow mess.
Then there's a dance party- where A LOT more color is thrown in the air.

After we finished the race (in 35 minutes), Ella and I bee-lined it for the stage.
We danced for an hour and a half.
There was a lot of jumping with our hands in the air.
My thighs still remember the jumping...super sore yesterday!

Ella even danced on stage to compete for a sweatshirt.

She's third from the left.
The girl has some sweet moves and totally got into it - so fun to see.

My poor phone, it stopped working after awhile- drenched.
I didn't get many pictures from the event
but you can see more on The Color Run Facebook page.
I hid my real camera in the car, so I snapped our before and after in the parking garage.

Three showers later and I'm still scrubbing blue dye off my body.
But wow, so worth it- we had a blast!
Rain of shine, we're definitely doing this again next year.
And we'll probably be wearing tutus.

Ch-ch-checked off another goal from my 40 before 40 list!

SO FUN! I can't wait to do one myself. I wouldve loved to have been there with you both..laughing, dancing, and even freezing :) That's one for the memory banks.

I love the pic of the raindrops. Great capture! Looks you two really did have the colors running. Drowned Rat- that's great.

Was there a run down of funds raised? Wish I could have been there, too. Great job ya'll.

Jaime- would have been so fantastic to run, laugh and dance with you!

Jackie- Thanks, I'm practicing a lot...pushing a lot of buttons, figuring stuff out.
Would have loved if you joined us too!
Not sure of the stats. I'll check and report back :)
